Don’t Miss

As an official UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bern is filled with landmarks to admire. Visit the Zytglogge, the 12th century clock tower in the centre, and watch as the mechanical figures reveal the time through songs and drums. Go inside and you can even watch the mechanical workings.

Retail Therapy

Shopaholics are in for a treat in Bern – there’s six kilometres of arcades along Spitalgasse, Kramgasse, Postgasse, Marktgasse, and Gerechtigkeitsgasse. Visit Puppenklinik for antiques, dolls and toys, and one of the city’s leading chocolatiers, Abegglen, for the Swiss essentials.

Eat and Drink

Take pleasure in sipping coffee on the Krungrosse; the cobbled road is a great place to soak up the atmosphere of Bern and to check out Albert Einstein’s old residence.

Hidden Gem

Take the cableway Marzilibahn. The funicular train creates an easy link to the higher elevation of the Marzili quarter in the Old Town and literally only takes a minute.

Day Trip

Bern is excellently positioned on the Swiss Federal Railway, so anywhere in Switzerland is easily within your reach. Escape the tree-encircled capital city and head to Interlaken for skiing, snowboarding and unbeatable views from the Alp peak of Jungfrau.
