Don’t Miss
It’s a beautiful walk to Les Quais along the shores of the Garonne. Find the unique Aquitaine Bridge; it’s a great place to snap some photographs. Explore Cours Clemenceau, Cours de l’Intendance and Les Allees de Tourny, known among the Bordelais as the Golden Triangle, on foot for the best perspective.
Retail Therapy
The kilometre of Rue Ste-Catherine is lined with the best shopping in Bordeaux; it’s also one of the eldest streets in town. Visit the multi-storied Le Marche des Grands Hommes for the best in luxury pickings.
Eat and Drink
As an area world-famous for its wines it’d be easy to get carried away. Maintain a balance with plenty of local, fresh seafood – go for Lamproie a la Bordelaise (eel cooked in red wine). If you’re not a fish fan try Confit d’Oie (potted preserved goose).
Hidden Gem
Literally bathe in the local Bordeaux wine at Les Sources de Caudalie in the Smith Haut Lafitte grand château. Their pioneering vinotherapy treatment, based on the health benefits of grapes, is an interesting concept.
Day Trip
From the main train station, Gare Saint Jean, you can explore the history, heritage and taste of the vineyards of Bordeaux. Go via Les Chartrons, the wine merchants’ district, and the medieval village of Saint-Emilion.
