Don’t Miss
Vienna is proud of its Mozart connection; statues and references to the composer are everywhere. Pay homage at his statue in the Burggarten. Ride the tram around the loop of the city and up to the Prater fun fair for a go on the huge Ferris wheel.
Retail Therapy
Vienna’s shopping streets are plentiful and the shops are huge. You’ll find high street favourites on Mariahilfer Strasse, for more unique and original purchases try the trendy Freihausviertel quarter.
Eat and Drink
You can’t leave Vienna without having a sausage from a Wuerstelstand. Apple strudel is also a must, as is Schnitzel and the famous Sachertorte cake. Wash it all down with some fine Austrian wine or one of the local beers.
Hidden Gem
There are many art and history museums in Vienna, but try the Furniture Museum for something different. Interiors and furniture of centuries gone by make up the 4,000 exhibits, with designers and royal personal collections among the retrospective.
Day Trip
Travel through the Alps to the beautiful Mirabell Gardens and Palace of Mozart’s birth town, Salzburg. Just over two and a half hours away by train, you can take in the Salzkammergut landscape with its mountains and lakes, while belting out the songs of The Sound of Music.
